Actor Philippe Martin (Francis Lederer) and his married date Yvonne (Liev De Maigret) plan to neck in a darkened cinema, but he gets the wrong seat and mistakenly kisses lovely Monique (Ida Lupino), a publisher's daughter.
An absurd scandal results; to protect Yvonne, Philippe insists that he was simply overcome by Monique's beauty.
This naturally intrigues Monique...but her nominal fiancée (Erik Rhodes) feels differently.
French bureaucracy is broadly satirized.

One of my favorites
I love this movie; it's got some wonderful social satire, great tongue in cheek humor, and the romance is okay, too (probably it's weakest point, though).
The film quality is fair--and completely black in the theater scenes.
Good leads, but the supporting cast makes it great (especially the judge!)

Mildly entertaining
Only on a rainy afternoon... I found this film predictable and drawn-out. Yet, liked it enough to watch the whole thing even though I knew how it was going to end. I just had to make sure she ended up with the ... spoiler here ...
I thought the sound had very low volume, even with my speakers all the way up.

Delightful
This is a chick-flick for sure. Since I like this type I give it 4 stars. I really enjoyed the court scene.
